It is so important to place self care at the top of our list.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s2\">During this time of uncertainty, what are you doing to take care of yourself?\u00a0 Really think about this question.\u00a0 Have you discovered that\u00a0self-care has\u00a0slipped down, or off your list of priorities.\u00a0 You don\u2019t need anyone telling you the importance of looking after yourself, and how this impacts on you holistically (i.e. Socially, Physically, Intellectually, Culturally and Emotionally). This includes your health, relationships, performance and coping skills \u2013 but when\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0busy, especially while trying to juggle family and school and\/or work changes, it is often the first to go, and yet essential to all aspects of our life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">Use Human Literacy to assist you to understand which part of your life is out of balance and then select a self-care option that supports you to improve it.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">If you are feeling stressed, change your view on it\u00a0\u2013\u00a0your body is trying to give you the energy you need to get through the task\/time at hand. \u00a0It is also signalling to you that you need to reach out and get some support. \u00a0It is a great time to add in the very thing you need &#8211; some self-care. \u00a0This act will change the body and brain response to a more harmonious level. View this great video to understand how you can make stress your friend:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RcGyVTAoXEU\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RcGyVTAoXEU<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s2\">Self-care varies from person to person.\u00a0\u00a0 Here are a few things you might want to schedule in (yes, schedule \u2013 add it to your diary so it becomes a must do):<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Have a bubble bath;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Watch a good movie;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Listen to music that speaks to your soul;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Dance;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Catch up with friends and family that lift you up;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Focus on what you can control and change. Let go of the things you can&#8217;t control by visualising this leaving your mind and getting smaller until it disappears;<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Talk to a mentor or trusted colleague, and seek some support;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Connect with someone that can help you to lighten\/share the load;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Do some physical activity that speaks to you \u2013 boxing, yoga, bush-walk etc.;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Get your camera\/phone out and take some great pics (helps increase appreciation of beauty and value the small things);<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Look at photos or videos that make you smile. Create a Pinterest board or youtube playlist, so you can access it on the go.\u00a0 Cat\/dog videos and\/or photos of animals are often a big hit across all ages;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Write a thank-you card to someone \u2013 this act of kindness can make you feel great too;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Start a gratitude journey.\u00a0 Find one thing each day to be thankful for.\u00a0 This could be a digital journey filled with photos\/videos, or one with words.\u00a0\u00a0 Make sure you look out for little things, like a beautiful sunset, or someone holding a door open for you;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Get outside and connect with nature \u2013 hug a tree, dig your feet into sand or grass, dance in the rain etc;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Start the day with a good serve of protein;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Enjoy a sleep-in;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Go to bed early;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Eat lots of feel good veggies;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Do something creative;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Add some art or photos to your walls or try some indoor plants;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">When you speak to someone clost to you, share\u00a0ways that you care for yourself;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Try some mindfulness exercises such as breathing, mindful walking, eating etc;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Visit a place that fills your soul, makes you happy and\/or at peace. \u00a0Did you know that your brain responds to imagined items in a similar\u00a0way to the real thing. \u00a0This means you don\u2019t have to even actually visit them to get some benefits of being there. \u00a0This is one of the reasons why meditation works so well and changes our brains.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s2\">Self care is a great thing to teach students and our children; allowing them to develop life skills that will support them as they grow.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s2\">So what would you do now to look after yourself:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s2\">Socially: to connect with others in whatever way is possible when you need it most;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s2\">Physically: to support your physical and mental health;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s2\">Intellectualy: to improve your focus and skills;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s2\">Culturally: to strengthen your beliefs, mindset and resilience;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s2\">Emotionally: to accept how you feel and make choices to create calmness in your life? \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s2\">How do you make this part of your practice with young people also? \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are some self-care tips that can support you and your family at this unprecedented time.
